LANCELOT (Interview)

1- When did you get strated producing music and what' s the story about you Aenos to Binary Records?

I've been around music since I was about 16 - I'm 22 now. My musical tastes have completely changed since my beginnings and I still feel like I'm constantly learning and evolving as a composer and musician.

2- Most people heard your tunes We Can Dance and Spoken World on The Magcian's Magic Tapes 19 and 20, what do you think about being in Magic Tapes repeatedly two months and was it better known about you in nu disco scene?
Being selected by The Magician two times in a row was a very special and humbling time for me. It really pushed my profile and exposed my music to many people overseas - especially in America and Europe.

3- We Can Dance Ep is absolutely amazing and different from the others in nu disco scene. It is hard to describe your music, it tastes like a bit tropical, groovy; sometimes it is slowly deep house, soulful, funky but finally it is so incredible and  unique. How do you describe your music?
First of all, thank you very much :) I guess the biggest and most important thing for me and my music is that it has to make me excited more so than anyone else. If it doesn't do that for me I won't release it. My music is the bastard child of deep house and disco. I take what I love from both and create something new.

4- How long it takes to produce We Can Dance, Spoken World, Daphnis The Nymph? Is it your voice in We Can Dance and how did you write the lyrics? I know it is hard to answer but which remix for We Can Dance is the best for you?
The whole process probably took 6 months or so. But I was in no particular rush. Yes that is me singing on the track! My favourite of the remixes would have to be the Frames one. They are all great for different sets.

5-You made brilliant remixes to Matt Corby, New Navy, Catcall, Tim&Jean, Fabian, Faker Dangerous and finally Rüfüs what is the next step? You are too young but do you feel ready for an album and is it a press on you because you made very unique productions and people or at least i am expecting from you to become bigger name and i know you will. You also made soundtracks for Bondi Hipsters and Sick! which do you prefer producing soundtracks or making music for indie dance-nu disco scene? Could you tell us about your upcoming releases?
At the moment I'm just focusing on getting this next EP done and dusted. In terms of writing, Lancelot for me is my escape from everything, it is my baby. It is something that I've built from the ground up and it has already let me do some really extraordinary things. I'm not writing to a scene, I'm not writing to a brief - it is purely my own creation. That aside I have a real passion as well writing for film. SICK! was an amazing experience to be apart of. Especially because a lot of the scenes were shot to my music and because of that, held a lot of the weight of the story. It was kind of like writing a modern musical or something. The Bondi Hipsters is just so much fun. Writing comedy jams with mates is awesome, especially when people from all around the world can relate!

6- Lately there are lots of talented producers like you in Australia, Hugo and Jimmy from Flight Facilities, Felix Bloxsom, Beni, Jack and Chris from Bag Raiders, Flume, Antoine Lunaire and many more.. Are you friends and supporting each other and what do you think about the Australian indie dance-nu disco scene? Can you tell your biggest influences and what are you listening and playing nowadays?
Yeh I'm good friends with Antoine (Moonchild) and Harley (Flume) and yeh of course we all support each other. It isn't a competition! ha! Biggest influences at the moment would be;
NTFO,
Kolombo,
Jimmy Edgar,
 Lindstrom,
Todd Terje,
Tensnake - this could go on forever!

7- You told your father is Turkish and his name is Mehmet; at first i thought it was a joke and than i trust you. Let me know when did your father goes to Sydney, what's the story briefly? Do you know about Turkish music scene, culture, food and rakı(traditional drink)?
Yep my dad is Turkish. Don't know the story exactly but he came here when he was pretty young. I really need to learn a bit more about the Turkish culture. I am not familiar with it at all really..

8- I know you finished your European tour but maybe next time you' ll come to Turkey and make gig in our unique city İzmir we' ll drink rakı toward gulf and maybe we can dance all together...
Definitely! Turkey will be on my next Euro Tour. I'll make sure. Party at your house! haha
