LANE 8

Surfing On The Waves Of Sound

He is one of the best musical inventions for our ears last year. We are talking about Daniel Goldstein aka Lane 8.  At first we heard about this Californian San Francisco based producer at The Magician's Magic Tapes with his unbelieveable song also the name of first EP "Don't Want You Back". If you remember the Magic Tape 23; when it has released everyone has wonder the name of unnamed second song. Two months later we learned that the second song created and produced by Lane 8.

The story behind of his stage name is about swimming. He says "Lane 8 means last lane at the swimming pool and also it's the name of my garage band that I played with my sister during my childhood.". He has a multicultural music history into electronic dance music genres such as Idm, electro, trance and progressive house and hip hop... If you listen his uniqe sounds carefully, you can see the combination and influences of these genres. His first demo which has released after months was a funky melodic house jam that named "The Voice".  This jam includes his own vocals and the samples from New Yorker songwriter Susanne Vega' s  song called "Tom's Dinner". That song was introduced by one of our best  music blogs Last Gas Station's Late Summer 2012 Compilation.

He has developed his unique sound and gained a seat with California house scene and also all over the world for us with his warmer summer disco song "Dusty" which features samples from Diana Ross' "I Will Survive", "Son Of A Preacher Man" by Dusty Springfield and part of a dialogue from "Pulp Fiction". Maybe you can say how many times you said sample; but when you listen that song you'll realise the individuality and ingeniousness.

After that Daniel released his new EP called "We Won't Know" which includes three songs "Thinking About You", "Down To You" and the last song that's the namesake of the EP. This Ep shows us the other side of Lane 8; the side of deepness and a little bit darkness part of him. Enttiled song of the Ep "We Won't Know" is an example of melancholic disco vibe but it's definitely perfect.

"Down To You" has a little misery but also huger hope in it with full of misty beats, scratchy vocals and hipshot kicks. Daniel introduces us dark, different and experimentel side of his sounds.

He also has remixes and reworks such as for Shoegazer Indie band Snowden from Austin Texas, London based famous British/American rock band Fleetwood Mac, Brandy, Freedom Fry..

Daniel exactly deserves to be huger name after the releases of "For You", "Without You" and lastly our personally best track of his products named "Every Night"; he presents the signs of how to become a big name. For us "Every Night" is the one of greatest songs of 2013 up to now which contains the samples of Diana Ross & The Supremes -  Reflections. Don't miss this man whose is the creator of unique sounds and one of the shining stars  at disco house scene...

MELOKIND

"Always Toward To Sun"

Hello Everyone;

Winter goes on for Europeans and North of the World. Maybe it's time to slow down, back to electronica and a piece of  surfing on the melancholic melodies, but be sure that this is palmy melancholia at. We believe that melancholia involves some hope and happiness at the roots. Denny Marx was born a small town of St. Wendel-Saarland but now he lives in Cologne-Köln/Germany. Melokind is the stage name of this Kölner talented producer. There is something beautiful in his sounds that sorts together disco scene for us. You'll see that he combines different genres such as techno, electro, tech house, trance... We conveniently can say that his experimental style is absolutely melodic, palmy and we loved it. Yesterday, he finally released an edit for Danish singer songwriter Agnel Obel' s song, named "Brother Sparrow". We don't know about him so much but he is a 28 years old fresh, newcomer and promising producer.

Denny has been producing music since he met with Ableton Live in 2009. We are interested in his past works but mostly can't stop us without listening his last productions which are soulful dancing melodic sounds.

It is so hard to keep people dancing merrily and also make feel them a little bit melancholic; but this man achieves it and deserves all of the kind words. By the way his motto is "Always Toward To Sun". Enjoy...

MOULLINEX(Interview)

He is the rising star of nu disco scene with his debut album “Flora” which has been released end of the October on Gomma Records and for us, it is one of the greatest nu disco albums of 2012. Certainly we are talking about Lisbon/Munich based Dj/Producer Luis Clara Gomes a.k.a. Moullinex.

Moullinex who has made many remixes for such musicians and bands as Cut Copy, Sebastian Tellier, Voltaire Twins, Kamp!, Drop Out Orchestra and many more in his discography and produced one of the best nu disco tracks of 2012 “Darkest Night” to us; finally released a remix of Russian duo Sohight & Cheevy and “Flora Club Versions” on November on Gomma Records.

As Bim De La Disco, we have spoken with the shining star of disco scene via internet before his upcoming show on this Friday(28/12) at the unique club 1888 İzmir to discuss his debut album “Flora” his label “Discotexas” and lots of other stuff.

Remember 2010; the amazing previous show of Moullinex at 1888 and now he is coming again with his tropic vibes; don’t miss him!
__________________________________________________________________________________________

2010 yılını hatırlayın; Moullinex’ in 1888’ deki inanılmaz performansını ve şimdi Moullinex tropik titresimleriyle tekrar geliyor, sakın kaçırmayın!

1- Your debut album “Flora” just released on Gomma Records, I wonder how long it takes to create a superb album “Flora” which combines the past and the future and also manages to be contemporary at the same time?
Thanks for the compliment! It took me around 2-3 years (not working fully on it but quite a lot of back and forth to start with around 30 tracks and finish with 14...)

2- Flora includes retro vibes, 80s disco sounds, soulful funky melodies, many great vocalists like Iwona, Da Chick, Peaches and feels like hopeful sunny afternoons, and it’s the formula of being happy when you are disappointed about daily life, politics and anything..  How do you describe your album and what’s your  favorite track of the album?
That's a good description there ! I see it as a natural response to what I was exposed to in music and in my life, something that grew organically, without a solid concept but with "natural" evolution... These are songs, there is no big conceptual background to them but I hope they share affinities between themselves... My favorite has to be the title track Flora, as I see it as a combination of everything my music is.

3- You worked with Peaches on Casablanca Reworks covering of Michael  Sembello’ s synthpop classic “Maniac” and the song was played by many mainstream radio stations here; how does it feel working with Peaches?
Awesome, she's a legend and it was a real pleasure to work with someone like her: surprisingly simple and super talented at the same time.

4- “Take My Pain Away” is one of the strongest tracks and first single of the album; and it has four remixers Gigamesh, Rory Phillips, Dj Steef and Strip Steve. To be honest which remix version do you prefer and will there be more official remixes about the album?
I can't pick a favorite! Gigamesh's is more song-oriented, Rory's is simplifying something complex which is an achievment, Strip Steve's and DJ Steef's are classic and classy, I really like them all. There will be more singles - Flora Club Versions are just out and the next single is Darkest Night.

5- It seems that you are the shining star of disco scene with your debut album Flora right now and your label DiscoTexas is the pioneer of the scene including artists like with your work partner Bruno Cardoso a.k.a. Xinobi, Social Disco Club, Philosophy of Sound, Justin Faust, Kamp!, Mirror People and one of my favorite producers  Zimmer; what is your next level musically? What do you think about scene in Lisbon and in generally?
Hopefully the whole label can grow from this - I think all of our artists' music is very honest and we're all hard working - everywhere I play there are people that are paying attention to what we do and that's really rewarding. Lisbon is difficult at the moment as we're living a political crisis, most kids our age are unemployed or under-employed, so they're not going out as much, but on the other hand they are creating more, so it's a double-edged sword for music.

6- Where do you feel at home, Lisbon or Munich; and what is your favorite club Sporting, Benfica or Bayern, 1860? How do you spent your time one day in casual life?
Benfica + 1860. They're the people's clubs, man! But I don't really follow football (HERETIC!). I'm more at home in Lisbon but I love to get out of it every now and then! I leave in a pretty old school neighborhood - you can see the river, go to a few gardens and it's full of old ladies, bakeries, barbershops.. it's not fashionable at all so no designer stores or "creative cafes" - and I'm glad it stays like this!

7- Do you remember when and how you decided to make music and what are your biggest influences?
I didn't really decide at a specific point... I've always been surrounded by music while growing up. Definitely messing with the computer, cassette recorders and an acoustic guitar is how i started. Going to shows like Air, Goldfrapp, LCD Soundsystem made me think "this is what I wanna do".

8- Which 5 tracks are the favorites for you right now and tell us your favorite producers?
So many! All time favorites are Nile Rodgers + Bernard Edwards.. Quincy Jones. Of today I admire Aeroplane. Maceo Plex, Julio Bashmore. Xinobi. Siriusmo. So many...

9- While had last contacted, you had just released a remix of electro funk producer Sohigt and singer Cheevy' s Travel Anthem, firstly congratulations it is a nice disco funk track including tropic drums and vocals sound more distortion and deeper.. Now you are touring Australia. How was the crowd, how do you compare it with Europe? Where are your favorite places to play?
The crowd is great in Aussie! They love things with strong melody and harmony which is where I feel most at home... But there's this crowd everywhere else, just not in the same quantity!

10- What’ s your favorite drink and  what is the meaning of pineapple for you?
My favorite drink is actually a fruit juice, Açaí from Brazil. But it's like a full meal!!

11- Two years ago, your previous gig in 1888 İzmir was one of the best dancing nights for us and you’ll visit us again to burn the dancefloor… Do you remember that previous night and now what should we expect from the next gig. Please also recommend us what we should drink together with your sound wave?
Yes, it was a beautiful night. The 1888 people treated me very, very well and I can't wait to return. Izmir is a lovely city. For the coming show you can expect good music, music you can dance to. Drink a couple of vodkas and bring dancing shoes!!

SHUFFLED WEDNESDAYS #5

Smoking Kills..

1- St. Lucia - All Eyes On You (Pacific Air Remix)
Jean Philip Grobler; most of you know that New York/Johannesburg based multicultural musician under the moniker St. Lucia and heard about his amazing songs such as "We Got It Wrong", "Closer Than This", "September" and "All Eyes On You"... The LA brothers Ryan and Taylor Lawhon which have changed their name Pacific Air, formerly known as Ko Ko remixed one of  Grobler' s hits "All Eyes On You" and you should listen that remix, be sure you won't regret.
__________________________________________________________________________________________

Jean Philip Grobler; çoğunuz New York/Johannesburg menşeili çok kültürlü bu müzisyeni St. Lucia sahne adıyla biliyorsunuz ve onun  harika olan "We Got It Wrong", "Closer Than This", "September" ve "All Eyes On You" gibi bazı şarkılarını da duydunuz. Eskiden Ko Ko olarak bilinen ancak isimlerini değiştiren Los Angeles' lı erkek kardeşler Ryan ve Taylor Lawhon; Grobler' in hitlerinden biri olan "All Eyes On You" adlı şarkıya bir remix yaptı ve kanımca bu remixi dinlemelisiniz, emin olun pişman olmayacaksınız.

2- Lane 8 - For You
One of the great music inventions to me in 2012 is Daniel Goldstein aka Lane 8.  We know San Francisco based producer at first with his unbelieveable beautiful song "Don't Want You Back". If you remember Magic Tape 23; when it has released everyone has wonder the name of unnamed second song . And now Lane 8 has just released another groovy melodic and unique piano house song named "For You" that incluedes samples from Isley Brothers' "This Old Heart Of  Mine(Is weak For You).
__________________________________________________________________________________________

Kanımca 2012 yılının müzikal anlamda en güzel keşiflerinden biri de Daniel Goldstein yani bilinen adıyla Lane8. San Francisco menşeili prodüktörü ilk olarak inanılmaz güzel şarkısı "Don't Want You Back" ile tanıdık. Magic Tape 23' ü hatırlarsanız, tape yayımlandığı zaman herkes isimsiz ikinci şarkının adını merak ediyordu. Şimdi ise Lane 8; "For You" adıyla Isley Brothers' ın "This Old Heart Of  Mine(Is weak For You) adlı şarkısından kesitlediği bir başka harika melodik piano house şarkısını yayımladı.

3- The Smiths - This Charming Man (Luis Leon Bootleg)
The Smiths is The Smiths and Morissey is Morissey; some of the musicians and bands like those names don't need much to explain.  Luis Leon made an amazing deep house bootleg version of that masterpiece song named "This Charming Man". Luis Leon says "We tried to stay true to the original because of course, like fans of "The Smiths", we don' t want to mess up a true masterpiece and we think that we maed it.".. They made a gerat work to me, ıf you like "The Smiths" may be you'll like that bootleg, of course decision is yours..
__________________________________________________________________________________________

The Smiths The Smiths' tir; Morissey de Morissey.. Luis Leon başyapıt mertebesindeki "This Charming Man" adlı söz konusu şarkıya harika bir deep house versiyonu yapmış.

4- Duran Duran - Come Undone (Discolog Edit)
"Duran Duran" was one of the best effective bands in 80's and they currently go on their way.. "Come Undone" is a single of  album named "The Wedding Album" that "Duran Duran" has released it when I was ten years old in 1993; I don' t remember when I listened that song at first, however that song was one of my childhood smashing songs. Nu disco Dj/Producer Cihan Aksoy from Istanbul aka Discolog who has a weekly radio show named "Discoloji" at one of the Turkey' s leading Edm radios called Dinamo FM just edited "Come Undone". This non vocal edit version is so minimalistic but also melodic and soulful;  the utilization of synths are so nice.
__________________________________________________________________________________________

5- Young Dreams - Fog Of War (Lemonade Remix)
Last month we heard about Norwegian band from Bergen named Young Dreams with their first single "Fog Of War" from their forthcoming debut album via Modular People in 2013. We heard the remixes of the song by Baio and  Korallreven up to now; and now Brooklyn/San Francisco based trio Lemonade remixed it and in my opinion that is the best remix that i have been listening about this song. It is more warm, danceable and also it is more restful to me.
__________________________________________________________________________________________

Norveç Bergen' li grup Young Dreams'i, 2013 yılında Modular People etiketiyle çıkaracakları ilk albümlerinin ilk şarkısı olan "Fog Of War" ile geçen ay duymuştuk.
